Parma and its territiry have a privelidged relationshipos with music and in particular opera.
The Province of Parma is rich in opera and music thanks to Composer Giuseppe Verdi who was born in Busseto in 1813 and Musician and Orchestra Director Arturo Toscanini who was born in Parma in 1867. The whole Province benefits from opera and music throughout the year culminating at a variety of theatres including Parma’s famous Teatro Reggio.
Today Verdi’s life and works are celebrated through the annual Verdi Festival in October which kick starts the opera season. Verdi is renound for operas such as Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, La Traviata, Otello and Falstaff among others.
The whole province has a wealth of theatres and music venues such as Parma’s Regio Theatre which has an attractive annual calendar of music and opera and the Verdi theatre his home town of Busseto which opened in 1868.
